Pastor Russ
says:
Dear Don, What wonderful work you do! Could I suggest a theme that has stuck in my mind for years? Maybe the Lord has put in in my head just to bring this to you. The theme is the "Cowboy's Prayer." It is sunset. On a hill, next to an old twisted oak, a cow boy has his hat off, looking up to the sky, saying a prayer while on his horse. He is a simple man that has seen a lot of work and he is spending his special time with his Maker before hitting the sack. The oak represents our trials in life, but still our hearts are strong as God tends to our needs in His wisdom (Jesus is the tree of life). A breeze (the Holy Spirit) is blowing so the main of the horse shows this. It is a simple message how any man that has spent time in the battles of life that has some sense will know there is a God, and he is worthy of time spent and respect as he acknowledges His soverignty. Could you do this and let me see your wonderful work? I have no money to give for comission. My late wife just started painting when she passed away. You can see the depth of her heart in God as her work, though short lived, was deep and powerful. Pastor Russ
Marco says:
Hi Pastor Russ, thanks for your compliments. Good idea for a future picture.
Barbara
says:
Amazing!... doesn't quite express the emotional/ impact of your incredible crayon renderings, but will have to do. You are an inspiration. Thank you. How about 'White Buffalo Calf Woman" from Lakota legend? Just a suggestion.
Marco says:
Hi Barbara, was'nt trying, only a lttle FYI some have been wondering why. Maybe someday when I know more about WBCW. Also, thanks for checking in.
Cindy
says:
I had someone email me something about you. I had not heard about you before. I had to come here to check it out some more. Wow! Your work is incredible!!! Crayons....who woulda thunk it?
Marco says:
Thanks Cindy, y'all come back and check in anytime. There is new work once or twice a month.
Marilyn
says:
What a blessing to have this opportunity to enjoy your gift. Will you ever do a clown? I have 3 Barry Leighton Jones clowns and wouldn't mind adding one of your depictions (Emmet Kelly?) Thank you and May God Bless you with many more years of sharing with us.
Marco says:
Hi Marilyn, nope, never done a clown. An Emmett Kelly portrait would make a good subject. Thank you for your kind words.
John
says:
Don, You have a great gift. What brand of Crayons do you use? Are there different qualities to choose from? And finally do you have an instruction vidio. Thank you, John Anderson
Marco says:
Thanks John. I use Crayolas, the kind of crayon you, me and the rest of us used when we were kids. There is just the one quality and it does what I want it to do. Sorry, no vidio.
Brian
says:
Your work is absolutely astonishing! I'm a high school student participating in a special art class, and I just began to work with crayon and I love it! Your work really shows how much you can acomplish with it and it inspired me to work in that media for a set of projects.
Marco says:
Hi Brian, when you finish your projects, don't stop with crayons. Keep it up and there is no limit to what you might accomplish. Thanks for dropping by with your comments.

says:
Your work is beautiful. I have always loved crayolas. I matted and framed a crayola picture I did in 1966, when I was 11 yrs old. It isn't great like your pictures, but it sure did get alot of attention from teachers and the art instructor at my school. They couldn't get over how anyone could do what I did with crayolas. I loved doing winter scenes and fruit too. I still draw with crayolas when I am not busy with so many other art projects. I love them !!!! I'm thrilled to have found your web site. Can't wait to show it to my boyfriend. He's an artist also. He's going to drool over your work ! Thanks for sharing it. Ruth Miller
Marco says:
Ruth, It's great hearing about your crayon past. Up until a short time ago there was nothing about adult use and now there is more and more. Keep up the good work and by all means tell others what you are working in. Thank you for the info and for your kind words.
Janey
says:
I am just getting going as an artist and I think your work is Incredible! You do a beautiful job! Old westerns are my favorites.
Marco says:
Thanks Janey, I hope you have as much fun as I have had and over as many years.
Jackie
says:
Like everyone else who has commented here, I think you are an awesome artist! My mom is 87 years old and is dying of ovarian cancer. Her father knew Geronimo and told her many tales about him. I would like to buy your amazing portrait of Geronimo for her for her last Christmas. Perhaps I should not have included the sad details about my mother, but I wanted you to know that I believe this wonderful portrait of her favorite Native American will be the most satisfying gift I could give her. I have a question: What is a Giclee print?
Marco says:
Hello Jackie, my best wishes for your mother. I do know you feelings... Giclee fine art printing uses modern technology to creat superior quality surpassing any other printing method available. The materials used to achive this are archival in quality with UV protection in the inks. The paper I have the printing Company use is the best. Order the print and I will personally pack and ship it to you. Thank you.
AL
says:
I HAVE SEVERAL OF YOUR PRINTS ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE A PRINT OF " OLD MILL STREAM" I ONLY SEE ORIGINAL AVAILABLE this is my favorite picture and I AM SURE OTHERS WOULD LIKE TO HAVE TO HAVE
Marco says:
Al, e-mail me to the web site.

for starters ur work is amazing, quite inspiring and breathtaking...although crayons really arent my ace in the hole...im better at color pencil, pen and painting. although it did all start with crayon, i mean everyones a kid at one time or another.*smile*...i found out about you when Mr. Renaud placed you as the artist of the month for september, well now its november and your stuff is till on the board...i still get hit ever other morning with its aura of awesomeness when i walk into class, i literly have to face away from it to stop my self from staring at all day and have Mr. Renaud yell(well not yell but still...) at me for not doing my work...*sigh*everyone keeps on telling me to expand my horizons and try different mediums and things to draw, instead of just cartooning all the time(which im kinda good at), im not saying that im not trying but it isnt exactly easy either...man i admire you, you truely are the King of crayons! to bad i didnt have the money to by a print or something from your collection...i'd end up plastering it to my wall or something...*chuckles*...well its nice to talk to you, so until we speak again, fare well and good luck on all your future achevements! X3 (if you dont reconize this expression you have to look at with your head tilted to the left to see it better.)*smile*....and thanks for listening to me,its always good to have someone to talk to. well must fly, again take care!
Marco says:
Hi Roc, thanks for all the compliments. There is NOTHING wrong with cartooning. Keep at it. I am suprised that my work in still up. I don't mind that a bit, as long as it is enjoyed. Going to write your teacher a note right now and if he shares it, thats OK.
Cheryl
says:
My mother had some prints of yours that were gifts from the PTL television ministry. I located the boys playing marbles on your website, but cannot find the landscape of a old wagon by a dirt road with a red barn in the background. What is it's title?
Marco says:
Hi Cheryl, the print is titled " Minn. Hwy 316". It is a short cut between Hastings, and Red wing, Mn. I depicted it as a dirt road but it is a two lane blacktop. Thanks for asking.
Kitty
says:
Hey, I'm another artist trying to get my works out there. I don't quite work with crayon, but I was wondering if you had any tips on how to get noticed, or any other kind of advice. And by the way, the Jack Sparrow Portrait is one of my favorites. You captured the character, and many of the marks in the works give it a very Jack-like energy.
Marco says:
Hi Kitty, strive to be outstanding with your work. Take part in as many local artsy events as you can. Donate work to charitable orgs. Do what ever it takes to get your work displayed on the internet. Above all, make sure you have the talent to sustain the long haul. Usually, overnight success takes a long, long time. Good luck......thanks for your comments.......
Jim
says:
Is Don going to do any more John Wayne?
Marco says:
Don't know Jim, got something in mind?
Barrett
says:
I just recently got into doing art with crayons when I drew a picture of Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page. I was wondering if you have any video or specific tips for a hopeful crayon artist. I really admire your work and "The Gathering" is my favorite picture. Thanks a bunch!
Marco says:
Thanks for checking in Barrett. Lots of luck with crayons. Use a soft touch, short strokes, finger rub to blend and above all, PRACTICE.

Hi, I am in one of Bob's classes. I just wanted to say that i think you work is amazing! I can only begin to think of what would have inspired you to try drawing with crayons. I would love to try crayon art, although I imagine it is very difficult. I have loved all kinds of art ever since I was young, and you have opened my eyed to a completely new type of drawing, thank you for that. Again, your work is beautiful and I would love to see more. : ]
Marco says:
Thank you for your coments Jess. If you would like to try crayons, go for it. Go easy, use a light touch, make small strokes and don't give up. Read the FAQ page and keep checking the gallery for new work. Good Luck.

Hello! I am actually a former student of Bob and he still sends a bunch of us the artists of the month, which is how I found your website. Your work is amazing and I am in awe of how realistic you can make everything look with crayons. It is amazing and I never knew anyone could do this with crayons!!!! I am currently a student at SUNY Oswego (about an hour and a half away from Bob) and I am majoring in studio art with a concentration in painting. Your work is beautiful and I am thankful that I got to see it!
Marco says:
Hi Kate, it is just great hearing from Bobs students and now a former student that has gone on for further art studys. I know he feels proud. May you have a life full of joy and art. Thank you for your comments.
Bob R
says:
Hi again Don. Thanks for the quick response. It kind of shocked me. As I was introducing you and your work today to another batch of students, your response came up with my last comment. On a side note, I was just wondering, if you were ever in the area (Northern NY - near the Adirondacks) please feel free to look me up. An incentive to you may be that fact that a wonderful Frederick Remington museum is only about 40 minutes from my house. It is a top notch collection. And as you probably know he is originally from Canton New York (not too far from me) and the museum is in Ogdensburg, New York. Again, only 40 minutesor so. I'd love to have you visit and make that trip. Just a thought. Take care, my friend and keep on drawing!!!!
Marco says:
Thanks Bob, you and your students made my day. Sorry to say, but my traveling days are over. I did get to NY back in '45 but that was to make a transfer in Grand Central Station. Keep in touch.

Hi Don, Last spring I had contacted you about being featured as our Artist of the Month. Well you are up and running and my students are in awe (and so am I). I only show my students MASTERS of their craft and you, good sir, are certainly a MASTER. Thanks again for sharing your gift. Here is our school's website where you can check out students' work, past Artists of the Month and much more. http://www.carthagecsd.org/webpages/rrenaud/
Marco says:
Hi Bob, I went through the web site before answering your comment. What an array of talent and how proud you must be. Pass a big WOW to your students and please tell them that whatever path they may take for their lives endeavor, always, always, leave room for art. I consider it an honor to be your artist of the month. Thank you very much. I will also continue to monitor your web site.
